ICONS, STARS AND CELEBRITIES by Carol Lexter What to do to be included in Volume IV of the World Who's Who's in Jazz, Cabaret, Music and Entertainment? Continues nextFAMSPA has already published 3 volumes of the World Who's Who in Jazz, Cabaret, Music and Entertainment. The series consists of 10 massive volumes. The Who's Who is unique at so many levels and unlike any other Who's Who, simply because it is a historical, thematic and biographical who's who. In addition to almost 40,000 entries and names, the Who's Who devoted an impressive and extensive section on the history of music and entertainment in the United States and the world from 1606 to the present. And this section will appear in Volume IV titled: THE BEST MUSICIANS, SINGERS AND ENTERTAINERS IN THE BUSINESS. Volume IV shall be made available in late April or early May 2007. Only the best (famous or not) are included. Curious minds in the industry -and of course so many agents and publicists- want to know who is in? Insiders, booking agents, venues' owners and avalanches of professional artists wonder why this or that artist has been written up at length in Volume IV or in any other volume and not some of their favorites, clients if they are agents, or simply recognized figures if they are associates. The answer is simple: It is quite impossible to include 3 million names in 10 volumes. Inclusion is by invitation only. This means that only those who have been contacted by the editorial board were or are considered for inclusion, regardless of their status, fame and fortune. Merits and personal accomplishments play a primordial role in the selection and inclusion of artists. WHO IS GOING TO BE ON THE COVER?
Tony Bennett? No. Madonna? Guess again! Barbara Cook? Not this time. Usually, the editorial board selects 4 artists for the front cover and 2 for the back cover. On the covers of the 3 first volumes, remarkable talents graced the covers such as Marlene VerPlanck, Carol Welsman, Rebecca Spencer, Amy Baker, Erika Luckett, Paulette Attie, Jill Corey, Barb Jungr, Peggy Judy, Sarah James and rising stars like Randa Gossoub and Carol Mennie. For Volume IV, the editorial board is still debating the issue. It is a tough call. On one hand, those who might appear on the cover must be artists who made their mark, and on the other hand, artists-clichés are to be avoided. In other words, the chosen ones must be unique in their talent, creative and subject of a great interest or at least serious curiosity for all those who are involved with music and entertainment. To put it bluntly, bubbly artists with charisma, outstanding talent and a very special flair are the first choice of the author and editorial board. Of course, the recommendations of the Federation of American Musicians, Singers and Performing Artists (FAMSPA) are seriously considered. ARTISTS WHO GOT A GLOWING WRITE-UP
